Home Movie Transfer 8mm, Super 8mm & 16mm

I've loved home movies my whole life. Among my fondest memories growing up in Indiana are the times we dimmed the lights, made some popcorn, started the movie projector, and watched our family adventures on film. I can still remember my Uncle Willard shouting at the screen: “Jump, Jump Robert.” and then laughing so loud! He thought it was so funny that as a two year old, I could not jump! Watching those old movies was the beginning of my love of movies and that's why I've been in this business for over thirty-five years.

Transferring home movies both from film and videotape is a big part of our business. For those of you who don’t know me personally, I got into this business producing, directing and editing TV Commercials and corporate film and video. I used to edit film on my Moviola Flatbed in my mobile home back in Covington, Indiana! (We eventually moved out of that mobile home and I sold the Moviola in the late 1980s. But yes… I started my career cutting film).

So it is kind of fitting that film is a big part of our current business. We understand film and transfer technology. Indianapolis is our headquarters and we have fifty other locations in the United States. I started it all from my fourth bedroom. By the way, if you know someone who likes video, movies, film, computers, tech and/or wants to work from home, send them to us. We put people in the video business. It is a great second or third career. Plus we give you a $3000.00 referral fee if the person you send purchases a studio ($70,000.00 investment).

Back to home movies - we have one of the best transfer systems in the world – a Flashscan system imported from Germany. It takes about $100,000.00 to set up a Flashscan and although we give mom and pop service (that’s a good thing!) we actually have one of the most sophisticated transfer technologies in the world. When you bring or send us your film, we are transferring your precious memories with the best technology and the greatest care. All of our transfer techs have degrees in media and film. We take great care to provide you with the best possible product and service.

What kind of film comes in? We get old16mm from the 1920s through the 1980s and 8mm/Super 8mm from the 1940s to the 1980s - footage that Mom and Dad, Grandpa and Grandma shot – family stuff mostly. The same types of stuff that you found in your Mom’s closet last weekend. Do you have the little blue plastic reels that are the size of the palm of your hand or the little yellow boxes? Perhaps you have a stack of 400’ reels in cans.

We distribute on DVD and DVA. Some of our customers still want DVDs but most now are opting for DVA - Digital Video Archive. Go to www.DigitalVideoArchive.com for more info. They provide a great service. DVAs have the best attributes of the old DVDS so every DVA includes a Chapter Timeline and this really enhances your viewing experience.

Digital Video Archive is like having a movie studio in your browser. Once your film or tape is on DVA, you can go into your DVA account and add or change titles, add descriptions, add chapters and also edit your videos. I know one of the questions you’re thinking… you don’t know what is on a lot of your tapes and reels of film and you wish there was a way to see it. We have a solution to this. Once we have transferred your film to DVA you can watch, figure out what is going on in your videos and then add the proper titles and descriptions. This is a very valuable service.

The other great thing with Digital Video Archive is that you can edit your DVAs! This is huge! You edit online. But the biggest plus to having your tapes and film on DVA is the private sharing. You can instant share your videos with friends and family. This is a wonderful thing and it is so easy. You can access your DVAs from your smart phone, smart TV, tablet or computer. Plus you can upload your smartphone to your DVA account and edit and share that too.

So at Home Video Studio, we have the best of the old tech and the newest/best transfer systems and distributing software in the world – Flashscan and DVA.

Technology has changed but there is still magic in dimming the lights, making popcorn, and reliving those adventures. It's the wheel of life. This is a wonderful business to be in and we love it. Give us a call if we can help you.

You've run across old family home movie reels - perhaps in your attic, closet, or basement. Maybe you found them at your Mom and Dad's home. You may have never seen them or maybe it's been decades. All you know is that they're precious - a treasure waiting to be opened. We can help you open and enjoy your treasure – your treasured memories.

One of the reasons I got into the video business was because I had a strong desire to be behind the camera. I wanted to shoot, direct and edit my own movies. I remember shooting my first super-8mm film when I was seventeen. I called it: Graduate With an Axe! (Don't ask...) Of course it was a smash hit - not!  But is started me on a lifelong journey of shooting and editing film and video. Plus now I help people into the video business as well (we have a great opportunity in Greenwood, Indiana).

My question for you today is this. Do you have old films? Do you have old reels of film? You know, those old blue reels (round of course!). What's on them? How can you watch them nowadays?

The first step is to break them out of the closet, garage, attic. Plan this well. Make sure you liberate your old movies in a gentle but efficient manner. Oh heck... just get them out of the house any way possible! Do it tonight! What have you been waiting for?

The second step is to get into your car and drive to your closest Home Video Studio. Or you can send your films to us. That's fine.

Seriously, there are over fifty Home Video Studios across the country who can help you transfer your old movies and tapes. Our studio in Indianapolis, is the headquarters. Home Video Studio specializes in film transfer. We do a great job. We'll do a great job for you and your family.

Check us out at Homevideostudio.com/cas

And... if you want to start your own studio, we can help with that too: www.myhomevideostudio.com. Remember we have a great opportunity in Greenwood, Indiana and in Naples, Florida.

Now... give us a call at 317-577-8220 or come into 8148 Raven Rock Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana 46256. You can also call Toll Free: 1-800-660-8273.

Why we attended Robert Hanley's Home Video Studio Show 'N Tell Saturday

"My husband and I felt like we had a big decision in front of us. We pretty much had our minds made up before going to Show ’N Tell. It was just a matter of solidifying with us that what we heard and what we saw was going to fit with our vision which it did. Going to Show ’N Tell absolutely did make our mind up."
Debbie Williams - Florence, KY
Former - Free Lance Graphic Designer - Photographer
"My Show ’N Tell was in June of 2015. I came down and Robert was very cordial and showed me his fantastic home studio of his own and presented everything that honestly I had probably heard it all be fore because I had done my research but I really enjoyed it and it just kind of confirmed that I was going to pursue this."
Kyle Cooley - Monroe, MI
School Teacher
"It was one of those things where I thought that well if I am seriously interested in maybe doing this I probably should take a look at it in person and see if this is something legitimate or not.  So I made reservations and flew to Indianapolis. Actually for me it was a Thursday, Friday but I met Robert and took a tour of his studio, got the whole spiel and bought in. "
Jerry Alldredge - Ellensburg, WA
Former Librarian
Hanleys 2016
"Tammy and I came to a Show ’N Tell Saturday. The initial conversation was Robert talking about what it is to be a Home Video studio Owner. Of course we’d listened to the CD’s over and over in our car for a couple of months I think Then we had the presentation and we signed right there at the end of the presentation."

Finally A Replacement for the DVD! DVA - Digital Video Archive

DVDs have been the state-of-the-art for more than ten years in the video and home movie transfer industry. In fact, Home Video Studios across the country still transfer video to DVDs for our customers who request that service.

More and more now, people are transferring to DVA – the Digital Video Archive – Video in the Cloud. DVA is the latest technology and it is fast becoming the media of choice. These days we most often transfer everyone’s old VHS, BetaMAX, 8mm and Mini DV tapes to DVAs rather than DVDs. Here’s why:
  • DVA is cloud-based. Your memories are safely archived - never again vulnerable to the elements, breakage, or being lost.
  • Each of your old videos (your old memories) are transferred to new DVAs and uploaded to Digital Video Archive. You can then view, organize and edit your old memories.
  • View your family videos on any computer, iPad, Tablet, Smartphone or Smart TV.
  • Invite your friends and family to view! Our sharing capability is private and by invitation only – very family friendly.
  • Add, change and re-title chapter markers online. Organize your new DVAs into albums (we call them Archives).
  • You can also easily edit your videos.
  • Memories, videos and DVA… they are one and the same! Never worry about the legacy of your family again.
“Hey You…Get on to Our Cloud”™
That’s right! Get on to our cloud. It’s easy! Just bring in your old DVDs, videotapes, 8mm, and 16mm home movies. We’ll take it from there.

Come in today.

Ready to get started? Here's our pricing: Basically, for tapes up to two hours long, we charge $29.95 per tape for transfer to DVA. Each tape goes to its own DVA. So if you bring in 1, 2, 3, or up to 4 tapes, your price will be $29.95 per tape to put each tape to its own DVA. If you have more than four tapes, you will receive a 20% discount. Thinking about transferring your audio reel to reel? We can transfer to CD and/or DVA - the Digital Video Archive Cloud. We specialize in this service and are glad you’ve chosen to investigate getting this done professionally for a few reasons: First of all durable professional media is important and we use only Gold Archival CDs, which are scratch proof and rated to last 100 years. Second, transferring old audio reel to reels can be a bit tricky. There is no way to know want is on the tapes without listening to them or transferring them, and most people lack the technology and/or the expertise to even play them back!

It’s our business to transfer old audio to a format you can use and that is archival in quality. We’ve found that many of these old audio tapes are gems! Imagine hearing your mother sing, or your parents exchanging “talking letters.” Maybe your tapes contain family gatherings or other types of personal programs.

The pricing is as follows: We charge $79.95 for a regular straight transfer per Audio CD that is filled up by your audio content. Even one of the small three inch reels can hold several hours of audio so we will not know how many CDs that your audio will need, thus we probably won’t know the exact cost of your audio transfer project until after we have finished it. The exception to this is if you know the length of your reel or reels. So for a regular transfer to CD we charge $79.95 per filled-up CD.

Now you may want to consider a “sweetened” or “enhanced” transfer. We highly suggest this. Most people want the highest fidelity and quality they can get in order to really hear the audio clearly, but one of the realities of audio reel to reel transfer is that the audio was recorded with technology from the 1950’s and ’60’s. The price for this is $125.00 per filled-up CD. Most people love the results of this enhancement and feel it was worth the investment.

One last thing. We can also transfer your audio program to DVA - the Digital Video Archive Cloud –where you can access it with your personal account at www.DigitalVideoArchive.com. Once it’s an audio DVA you can instantly share it with anyone on the planet. Many of our customers opt for this, and many get both Archival CDs and DVAs. For transfer to DVA please add $19.95 for every 72 minutes of audio.

We do offer free pick-up and delivery service or you may bring your tapes to us. We are open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 10 to 2 pm.
